All aboard for the journey back...getting out feet wet.
Richmond to Blenheim (Marlborough Wine Land).
Today 10th we took a trip from our campsite in Richmond to Blenheim, which is famous for the Marlborough wines, not so popular in UK. It was a beautiful drive and after some rain overnight the clouds had lifted giving good views of the mountain ranges. The road we took was straight, quite unusual for here, until we got close to Blenheim. The annual wine festival is based here and is on tomorrow so there were quite a few people about. We found a cafe and had lunch and then decided to go on to a place called Seddon, which has the winery for the wine we have fallen in love with. The road lead us through the heart of the wine country with rows upon rows of vineyards. The surrounding area looked very barren and there weren't many trees around, so different to what we have been used to. We found the Yealands estate, where the wine came from and had tastings and a film about the vineyard. We bought a bottle of pinot gris a superb white wine. We also found out that they sell their wine in Marks and Spencer, Tesco Finest and in Sainsbury's they sell their reisling. We shall be looking for that when we come back.
Unfortunately on the way back the weather closed in and we had rain!! We stopped for a break at Pelorus Bridge, a good viewing point over a gorge and then completed our circle to Nelson. Some pics of that tomorrow. Another good day. Tomorrow we are off to Greymouth for two nights. Bye for now.
