I had to skip a days blog because wifi access is very limited here in this part of Wellington. We arrived here last night and had a really long journey from Napier, picking up all the vineyards on the way, not stopping for tastings today though! The road was fairly straight to start with (you know what I am going to say don't you?) and we took a break in a place called Woodville, yet another art deco place. The cafe was really fun, it had lots and lots of very 50's things to look at. There were plenty of old cars as well, morris minors are much the favourites here.
After the break we started our journey to Wellington. We couldn't go the scenic road because they have had a serious land slip, apparently a very frequent occurrence here, but this one has closed the road for at least 3 months. We had to make our way on a diversion and yes, here come the steep bends. We travelled through a windfarm perched on the mountain side. David is getting very good at steep bends..and even I am not holding on to the side of the van as much. When we arrived in Wellington it was early evening and we had a chance to relax and unwind. We are completely surrounded by hills and wifi is vey limited so hence I am hurrying through this blog. Today we took the bus into Wellington. It was the national holiday and it was every festive, with a concert going on on the quayside. The sun was shining and everyone seemed in holiday mood. We walked along the quay and then found a cafe for a drink before returning on the bus. Tomorrow is an early start as we are off to the South Island. We shall be very sorry to North Island, but everyone has been telling us how wonderful South Island is. Lets hope the sea is calm tomorrow for our three hour crossing. Thats all for not, pictures on tomorrows blog.
