We have put in the picture of the wine tour, see the barrels! The next is our day in Wellington going up the cable car to the Botanical Gardens, what a lovely area that was, well above Wellington Harbour(everything is on a hill in Wellington!) We had a great day and managed to fit in lots of walking around the area.
We left Wellington for the ferry to South Island. We have had a very good time in the North and now we leave that part of our journey and onto ventures new. The ferry was fantastic and the straits were fairly calm (thank goodness). We entered Charlotte sound and we will be showing some pictures tomorrow. The cruise through the sound was awesome, much different countryside to the North. Lots of natural greenery and bush. We motored to Havelock which is about halfway between Picton and Nelson. It was a very pretty drive again with the twisty bendy roads that David thoroughly enjoys (I am beginning to get used to being tossed from side to side in the van). We stopped and had coffee in a very small township, but full of history. It was a gold mining area in the 1800's. We then travelled through Nelson to a place called Richmond. We are in a very peaceful area and each van has its own space, bordered with flowers. This site is also much cheaper than the Kiwi sites we have been staying in and the wifi is free!! Tomorrow we are off on a boat trip to explore the Abel Tasman National park, you start by boat and walk for 2.5 hours then pick up the boat again.
We are really getting fit. For anyone who likes the open road and lovely scenery New Zealand is the place to be. We have found courtesy on the roads and people here can't be more helpful. It was quite a piece of news over here to read about the Kiwis in London celebrating their National Day so badly and making trouble for themselves. They really are not like that here and yesterday at the celebrations in Wellington it was a real carnival atmosphere with lots of Maori entertaining the crowds. We are now back into very warm weather and sitting outside having our meal. Cheers!
