Taupo to Napier
This morning we set off for the Huka Falls trip before leaving Taupo. Another good day and first of all we went to the Aratiatia Dam at 10am to see the dam open into the river. It was an amazing site and from being a few little pools of water it went to be a rushing white water area. We then went on a boat trip to the base of the Huka Falls further along the river. It was lovely to be at the base and feel all the spray, the water was not rough but felt as though you were bouncing along.
We then visited a lave glass blowing factory and bought a beautiful glass bowl which will be sent to UK for us (no way could we carry this home!)
After lunch we continued our journey to Napier along another twisty winding road (I don't think there are any straight roads here) We travelled through two magnificent mountain ranges and a huge forestry area (closed when the fire risk is high) down to Napier. We again have struck lucky with our campsite, right on the beach as the picture of me shows. We are now in the wine region and hopefully will get a wine tour tomorrow. They all seem to be pretty well booked up but we can actually drive ourselves. Not so good if you want to taste the wine! Maybe a taxi. This is for Jackie, yes I am receiving you texts but they are coming through a 3am our time! We are thirteen hours ahead of you. Still we don't mind as hearing news from home is great. Good news about Tony, lets hope he gets on TV. Just sitting here listening to the sea and the waves with a glass of wine, what a way to live...
